The Coventry Student Sport Conference is an annual celebration of undergraduate research hosted by Coventry University. Students and staff from across the sport, exercise, therapy, and coaching degree programmes come together to share undergraduate research. Being able to communicate and present complex ideas is a valuable skill, which the conference helps our students develop in a supportive and collaborative environment. The conference also brings together employers, alumni, and external speakers to showcase the many opportunities available to our students and provides an opportunity to build professional networks. The day truly is a departmental celebration of research within sport and is a springboard for our students to launch their future careers.
Research presentations
Third-year students after completing their research projects will have a choice of presenting their findings either as a traditional slide presentation, digital poster, or an infographic at the Student Sport Conference. Each student will be asked to submit a presentation title, an abstract, and choice of presentation style like real-world conferences. Presentations are five-minutes with five-minutes of questions, which will test the students’ understanding of their research topic. The conference allows the students to practice their presentation and communication skills in a supportive environment of their peers and staff.
Keynote addresses
External speakers are invited to the Student Sport Conference to share their experience and knowledge with the conference delegates. Invited keynotes, from academic and business leaders to sport professionals inspire our students. Each keynote focuses on themes ranging from academic success, employability, business, and professional experiences.
Alumni speakers
Our graduates move on to amazing careers. Inviting our alumni back to their alma mater to share their experiences, helps our current students better understand the opportunities available to them. Everyone’s journey will be different, but our alumni lead the way for our current students and by sharing what they have learnt, provides a framework for success. No matter what the student’s future career might be, our alumni have valuable insights to share.
Careers exhibition
Our students have a huge range of career opportunities available to them and it is never too early to start thinking about the future. The careers exhibition brings together key local employers, charitable organisations, university service providers, and postgraduate programmes to showcase the host of opportunities available to a sport, exercise, therapy, and coaching graduate. Students can build their professional networks and discuss career options with employers.
Workshops
We have research-active members of staff who are experts in their field, who want to share their knowledge. Workshops are hosted by academic and research staff that are designed to share their research, contemporary ideas, and the latest skills. Each year a range of workshops will be hosted by university staff, which students can attend to learn and develop their knowledge and skill set.
